10 Things I Love About My Job

  1. I get to wear jeans and t-shirts. Every day.
  2. I have my own office, with big plate glass windows.
  3. I have an extremely fast workstation with a huge-ass monitor, and a Razer DeathAdder mouse.
  4. I get to do work I am proud of.
  5. My colleagues acknowledge that I probably know more about what I’m talking about than they do.
  6. All of the doors here have keypads with secret codes. It’s sort of like working at NASA, but not quite as cool.
  7. I know the code. beep boop beep beep boop
  8. Someone is always leaving food in the breakroom, “free to hungry home”.
  9. We have lots of parties, and when we do, we all get to drink beer at work.
  10. It pays well, and the benefits are pretty good.

MIRROR/REPOST [McKnob.com]: The Completely True Brad Paisley Story and Other Things I’ve Meant To Post

This is a repost of http://www.mcknob.com/2009/05/completely-true-brad-paisley-story-and.html. There is some chance that the original will be forced to be removed, I am just doing my part to make sure it stays up somewhere. Brad Paisley can’t sue us all. This story is 100% factual. It is not satire, it is not exaggeration. The portion of this post relating to Brad Paisley is a factual account of actions his management staff committed. The author of the original post, Crystal, is now being threatened with legal action by Paisley’s staff. Not sure exactly what they are going to sue for, as this story is 100% true with no embellishments. One cannot sue for libel or slander if the statements in question are not false. I have not modified this post in any way except for highlighting the portion relating to Brad Paisley.

Projects and plugs

I have not posted in some time, we were pretty busy with the move, and I’ve been busy with a top-secret project of doom.

Ok, it’s not so secret. Patrick and I are working on a web application for the rental housing industry. It’s gearing up to be pretty cool. You can learn a little more about it on the development blog.

Also, pay a visit to my wife’s site, Amber Rhodes-Lapoint Photography. She is a very talented lifestyle photographer, and if you live in the West Tennessee area and are in need of a wedding, infant, family, or portrait photographer, you should definitely give her a call.

Driving in the Dallas area

My work commute is about five miles each way. Not too terrible by any means – if you happen to live outside of the Dallas/Fort Worth area. On a daily basis, Dallas drivers continue to come up with new and inventive ways to irritate, endanger, and generally piss me right off. Read more

Tornadoes

Well, I survived my first Tennessee tornadostorm. Union University wasn’t so lucky. Their site is still down, in fact. Hope they had backups. Glad nobody was killed there.

My condolences go out to the families of the two who were killed by the tornadoes in Madison county last night.

Grif The Superpuppy

Well, we finally found a place for Boomer, which meant we could finally get the German Shepherd puppy we’ve been longing for. So, this past Saturday, we made the 2.5 hour drive up to Nashville to meet with Friends of Hannah Animal Rescue, and pick up our new little friend, who we have affectionately named Grif: Read more

Depression Cookie

depression-cookie

This was inside my fortune cookie this evening at our local Chinese buffet restaurant. I just have to say….wtf?!

“It could be better, but its good enough.” Uhh.. okay.. so.. your wonderful, mystic advice to me is “yeah, your life could be better, but why bother? Settle for mediocrity.”

Brilliant. It’s a new generation of Chinese fortune cookies: Depression Cookies!

It really is brilliant, actually.. drive the population into depression, causing them to want to eat more… where’s the best place to drown your depression in prepared food? That’s right. A buffet.

Diabolical.

Cleaning Products Are Bullshit

I have dogs. Dogs make messes. An unfortunate fact of life with dogs. But I love them nonetheless.

I came home from work last week, and one of them had left me a surprise fecal festival on the living room carpet. How thoughtful, just what I always wanted. Anyways, I scooped up the rectal gifts, tossed them into the toilet, and then some stain-removal advice I had recently overheard popped into my head: “Hydrogen Peroxide.” Read more
